Common Name: Common Vetch
Latin Name: Vicia sativa
Description: The Common Vetch plant grows in grassy banks, sand dunes, roadside verges, and meadows. The purple and white flowers have pairs of leaflets varying in number from 3 to 8. Common Vetch is a quick growing annual plant and resembles a low growing “sweet pea”. It is a highly important plant for insects.

Management: Common vetch can do well in many soil types ranging from light sands to heavier clay soils, but not acidic or poorly drained soils. Being an annual it is important the seeds can drop onto the ground.
