DELIVERY INFORMATION

Delivery (inc Packaging & Despatch)

When we receive your order

When we receive your order we have a number of processes to undertake before we send the plants to you. We have to pick the plants, do an initial health check, sometimes clean and dry the plants ready for sending out. This is always done the day before sending out to give us time to respond to any issues we may have to deal with. With these being live plants or bulbs we have to look after them before they come to you.

How soon will your order arrive?

We are currently taking 2-7 working days, after the purchase date, to get plants out of the nursery WITH the average being sent in 2 working days.

We despatch all orders from Mondays to Thursdays, which means delivery between Tuesdays and Fridays. We do not despatch on a Friday or at the weekend to avoid the plants being in transit for too long. Delivery on a Monday is difficult to arrange. If you require a specific delivery date (excluding weekends and Mondays) please mention this when ordering.

As per our terms of service, the estimated delivery time for orders shipped via Tracked 24 Courier Service is between 1 to 3 working days from the date of dispatch. You will receive tracking notifications sent to the mobile or email you submitted to keep you informed about the delivery progress of your order. These notices will provide important updates regarding the status of your package and expected delivery dates.

Please note that for all deliveries the time frame may vary depending on the destination and/or any unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. We kindly request your patience and understanding in this regard. If there is an unseen delay or issue with your delivery, please contact us via email on en*******@*******************co.uk to inform us of the issue.

Our current Postage and Packaging for most Mainland UK orders is £8.94 inc. Vat. Orders will be sent via a Tracked Next Day Courier Service. For smaller items there is an option to send via Royal Mail tracked service costing £5.75

Postage and Packaging for orders to the Highlands/Islands only (unfortunately we no longer deliver to Northern Ireland) cost £10.80 inc. VAT. Orders will be sent via a Tracked Courier Service.

For very large orders our despatch/delivery charges will be bespoke and are agreed at point of order.

We are striving to develop our packaging to be low carbon and a 100% compostable box. In order to achieve this, we use brown sustainable cardboard, bio/compostable paper tape, vegetable ink, compostable bags and compostable paper packing.

We’re conscious of reducing our use of single use plastics, therefore please reuse the plant trays in which your plugs have been grown and sent in. We currently don’t have an alternative to grow our plants in that will last the time we need to grow but also will be robust enough. We do extend the life of these trays in that we re-use most of these, so making them not single use anymore. All our old plastic goes to be recycled and made in to recycled products such as park benches or boardwalks.

Process for your order

Once we are in receipt of the order we will undertake the following procedure the next working day.

  • The plants are picked for the order and are checked for plant health & quality.
  • The plants usually need 1 day to dry out before packing and when ready are securely placed in the box.
  • We have to package the plants securely so they do not move in transit but occasionally there can be some minor squashing of the plants. This is usually superficial and will not impact on the plant survival once planted out.
  • Our packaging is 100% compostable, and plant trays can be reused.
  • The box is sealed and labelled ready for collection which is usually after 4pm.
  • Our aim is to get the plants to you within 24hrs from despatch but sometimes this may longer.

Please share with us any feedback you have about your plants and the packaging using the contact us form.

Most of our plants are grown in our standard plug size.

Our standard plugs are 65cc plugs (measures 50mm x36mm x 62mm high).

We also grow/sell some other plants in Large Plugs (99cc), Jumbo Plus (110cc), Root trainers (125cc) and a few in 7-9cm pots. Some plants we do sell as bare root in the winter.
We are able to contract-grow in other sizes if given enough time.

PLEASE NOTE – When comparing other wildflower suppliers, we recommend you check the plug size before ordering. This is because some suppliers although cheaper per plug these are much smaller in size. We recommend a minimum plug size of 55cc to give the plant a good chance of surviving planting.

What about sustainability

Commonly asked questions

Are you an organic nursery? Do you use peat?

We run on organic principals and sustainability is at the heart of what we do.  We use peat-free compost to grow all of our native plants.  You can find further details under INFO on the main bar above.

What products do you currently have in stock?

Available stock will vary across the different seasons. Product pages are updated with stock levels on a day-to-day basis and numbers are automatically reduced once each web order is completed.  If an item is out of stock, we also provide pre-order information where this service is available.

What plants do I need?

This will depend on the type of habitat you are planting into or wishing to create.  Under HABITATS on the main bar above we have a selector for different types of habitats to help you find the appropriate species.  We also have different mixes of 40 plug plants that we have collated, which are listed under PLANT MIXES.

What size are your plug plants?

Most of our plants are grown in a standard sized plug of 65cc, measuring 56x36mm, 62mm tall.  We sell some plants in 8cm pots and contract grow in other sizes.

How many plug plants will I need?

This will depend on the species being planted and the area they are going to be planted in to.  As a very general guide, 4-5 plug plants per m2 is likely to be suitable for most household garden areas.  Larger areas may be best suited to being sown with a wildflower seed mix, complimented by plug planting.

When can I plant out plug plants?

You can plant plug plants all year round, although we recommend planting out from March to September to provide them with the best start.

Do I need to plant out my plugs as soon as they arrive?

Plants love light so carefully remove them from the packaging when they arrive.  If you can’t plant out straight away the plants will be fine in the plug cells for a few weeks, just keep watering them and place somewhere sheltered.  If you are planting out straight away, water the plants after opening and leave them to ‘rehydrate’ for at least 30 minutes before planting.

Will I get planting and maintenance instructions with my order?

Yes, all of our plants, bulbs and seeds come with both planting and ongoing maintenance advice.

I want to bring wildlife in to my garden. How do I do this and what plants should I use?

Planting native wildflower species is an excellent way to encourage and support wildlife in your garden or wider landholding.  This can be a wildflower border, wildflower lawn or wildflower meadow and can be achieved using plug plants and seed sowing.  We have various plug plant mixes available, which can be found under PLANT MIXES on the main bar above, and seed mixes which can be found under NATIVE SEEDS.

When is the best time to plant bulbs?

Most bulbs are best planted ‘in the green’, when they are in leaf and still growing, and can be planted before, during or after flowering.  These are available in Spring and more likely to come back stronger the following year.  We also sell bulbs in the Autumn, which are dried and ready to be planted for flowering the following Spring.

When is the best time to sow wildflower seed?

We harvest our native wildflower and grass seeds over summer, mostly during July.  The seed is best sown fresh, so we recommend it is sown during August and September, when we usually have a plentiful supply.  We do keep it in specialist cold storage and the seed can also be sown in the Spring and earlier summer or into October providing the ground is unlikely to freeze in the following weeks.

Can I sow wildflower seed straight on to my lawn?

Sowing straight on to your lawn is not recommended.  Wildflowers prefer low-nutrient soil conditions and should be planted in to bare ground.  We provide preparation, sowing and aftercare advice with your order.

How much is your delivery charge and how long will it take?

See our Delivery Information Page for the most up to date rates. See Top Tab on Home Page.

Do you provide a contract growing service?

Yes, we do.  Depending on the species, producing healthy plugs from seed can take from weeks to months, so the earlier you can place an order then the better for your project. If you are interested in this service, then please send an initial enquiry with the following details:

which species, size of plug, how many, area covered, type of habitat, project timescales, expected delivery, delivery site and number of deliveries.

Can I open a Trade Account? Do you have a Trade Catalogue?

Yes, we now have Trade Account Forms. Please contact us via the enquiries email and we will send over the form OR Please email us with your detailed requirements, and we will provide a bespoke quotation. Yes, we have a Trade Catalogue – please request one.

What are your plant sizes?

We recommend a minimum plug size of 55cc to give the plant a good chance of surviving planting.

For more information, visit our plant sizes page.

Wildflower plug plants are small plants grown in plug trays. All our plants are UK native species, and we can guarantee where they come from as we harvest our seed from wild places. We work with a number of wildlife organisations and landowners to take wild seed responsibly. This seed is used to grow the plants. We have a wide range of wildflower plug plants for sale for a wide range of habitats.
