Description

Bird’s-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) is a perennial plant that produces clusters of yellow flowers tinged with red. It grows widely across the British Isles and thrives in grasslands, waste areas, limestone pastures, heaths, and scrublands. The plant provides an important food source for the larvae of several butterflies, including the Common Blue, other Blues, the Clouded Yellow, and the Burnet Moth. To support Common Blue larvae, the turf should be kept short, ideally under 2.5 centimetres. Its bright flowers and low-growing habit make it a valuable addition to wildflower meadows, roadsides, and pollinator-friendly gardens.
