It grows throughout much of the UK, though it is less common in northern and eastern Scotland. The plant thrives on riverbanks, marshes, and damp waste ground, adding vibrant colour and structure to wetland habitats. Its flowers attract bees, hoverflies, and butterflies, supporting a wide range of pollinators while enhancing biodiversity along waterways and marshy areas.
