Description

Wild Basil (Clinopodium vulgare) is a hardy native perennial wildflower. That produces clusters of attractive pink to purple flowers from July to September. Its aromatic foliage and long-lasting blooms make it an excellent choice for wildflower meadows, grasslands, roadside verges and wildlife-friendly planting schemes.

Commonly found on calcareous grasslands, woodland edges, hedgerows, and banks throughout the UK. Wild Basil thrives in well-drained soils and performs best in full sun or partial shade. Its upright, bushy growth habit adds colour and structure to species-rich planting while blending naturally with other native wildflowers.

The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and other pollinating insects, making it a valuable species for supporting biodiversity. As a UK native wildflower, it is well suited to habitat restoration, conservation projects, ecological landscaping and pollinator-friendly meadow creation.
