With its large, pale blue to violet flower heads, Small Scabious (Scabiosa columbaria) is attractive to butterflies and bees. It inhabits dry, relatively infertile soils such as downs, hillslopes and banks, and occasionally in limestone cliffs and quarries. It is largely a lowland species, having a scattered distribution throughout the UK, with the highest concentrations of plants being found in southern England.
