Description

Small Scabious (Scabiosa columbaria) is a beautiful native perennial wildflower. That produces delicate lilac-blue, pincushion-like flowers from July to September. Its elegant blooms and finely divided foliage make it a standout species in wildflower meadows, chalk grasslands, and pollinator-friendly planting schemes.

Commonly found on calcareous grasslands, limestone slopes, coastal cliffs, and roadside banks throughout the UK. Small Scabious thrives in well-drained, nutrient-poor soils and performs best in full sun. Its compact, clump-forming habit adds long-lasting colour and texture to species-rich meadows and habitat restoration projects.

The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and other pollinating insects. Providing an important late summer food source. As a UK native wildflower, Small Scabious plays a valuable role in supporting biodiversity and is an excellent choice for conservation projects, ecological landscaping, and meadow creation.
