Description

Devil’s-bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis) is a widespread wildflower across the UK. It grows in damp meadows, marshes, woodland edges, and along riverbanks. A fairly late bloomer, it flowers from July to October. Its rounded, lilac-blue flower heads attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Most notably, it is a key food plant for the scarce Marsh Fritillary butterfly. With its long flowering season and rich nectar, Succisa pratensis adds colour, texture, and ecological value to wet grasslands and wildflower meadows.
