Description

Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) is a perennial wildflower found in a wide range of UK habitats, from mountain ledges and sand dunes to lawns and urban waste ground. It produces distinctive pink-red flower heads that vary slightly in form across different regions. The plant’s larger, downy, clover-shaped leaves feature a prominent white ‘V’ mark, distinguishing it from white clover. Trifolium pratense flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, helping to support biodiversity while adding colour and texture to meadows, grasslands, and naturalised garden areas.

Our Red Clover plug plants for sale are priced per plant. This product has a minimum quantity of 10 plug plants. For orders over 500 plug plants please contact us.

All our plants are native British wildflowers grown in Peat-free compost in our sustainable nursery.

Management

Red Clover grows best in well-drained or dry

,

neutral or alkaline soils but will cope with mild acid soil. It prefers to be in full sunlight but will cope with dappled shade. They will grow in hay meadows and pastures with moderate grazing. The latter causing the plant to maintain a smaller size/height. Red clover stands that are one year old or older should be cut at least 3 or 4 times in a season. In newly sown grasslands they can in the first 2-3 years become dominant and cutting back or small scale control may be necessary but this outcome is dependant on the site conditions.
