Description

Oxlip (Primula elatior) is a beautiful native perennial wildflower. That produces clusters of soft, pale yellow, nodding flowers from April to May. Flowering early in the season, it provides an important source of nectar and pollen for emerging bees and other pollinating insects. While bringing subtle colour to woodland and meadow habitats.

Naturally found in woodlands, woodland edges, hedgerows and species-rich meadows. Oxlip thrives in moist, well-drained soils and grows best in partial shade. Additionally full sun where conditions remain cool and fertile. Its attractive rosettes of green leaves and delicate flower stems make it an excellent choice for woodland restoration, naturalistic planting and conservation projects.

Furthermore, the nectar-rich flowers support a wide range of early-season pollinators, contributing to healthy ecosystems and increased biodiversity. As a UK native wildflower, Oxlip is therefore well suited to habitat creation schemes, ecological landscaping and the restoration of traditional woodland and meadow habitats. In addition, oxlips are considered to be a rare species that is on the danger of becoming extinct.
