Wood Avens (Geum urbanum) is a hardy perennial that grows well in shady and semi-shady spots. It produces small, bright yellow, star-shaped flowers from late spring to summer, which attract a variety of pollinators. Additionally, it thrives in open woodlands, woodland rides, and hedgerows across the UK and Ireland. This plant also supports wildlife, serving as a food source for Grizzled Skipper butterfly caterpillars, and in some areas, it can cross-pollinate with Water Avens (Geum rivale), adding diversity to natural habitats.
