Description
Perforate St John’s-wort (Hypericum perforatum) is the commonest of the (approximately) dozen species of St John’s-wort in the UK. It is present throughout most of the UK and Ireland, although rarer in northern Scotland and areas of western Ireland. It prefers lime-rich, sandy soils such as dry grassland, scrub, open woods and waste ground.
Was extensively gathered in the past and used in traditional remedies aimed at treating mild-to-moderate depression, nerve pain, and anxiety.
