Branched Bur-reed (Sparganium erectum) is widespread throughout the UK and Ireland, favouring wet ground such as marshes, shallow water or exposed mud on the banks of rivers and streams. If situated by flowing water, it prefers slower waters as it is easily uprooted. The tiny flowers are borne in large spherical clusters on erect stems.
