Habitat:
These plants thrive in partial shade, but conversely, they struggle under dense, coniferous woodland. Generally, they prefer dry, well-drained soils; however, they can tolerate some moisture, so avoid planting in areas prone to flooding. They grow well in neutral to slightly lime-rich soils and, in addition, can also handle acidic conditions. Moreover, incorporating leaf litter into the soil helps improve growth and overall health. Finally, avoid planting in locations where they may be grazed or regularly cut, as they do not tolerate this well.
By choosing our products, you support British growers and suppliers who work closely with local farmers and businesses. All our plants are grown from British Seed and raised in Britain. However, be aware that some online sellers import non-native plants and seeds. While these may be cheaper, they are not true UK natives and may not suit our environment.
All our plants are true UK native British wildflowers grown from UK sourced native wild seed. We grow our plants in Peat-free growing media in our sustainable nursery.
| Management |
We recommend allowing these plants to flower and most will die back. If they do it is worth just cutting off the dead material but do allow the plant time to seed. If you have heavy soil it might be worth adding a bit of leaf litter to increase the soil nutrient level. Always be aware you will have to manage weeds in the first 2-3 years after planting. |
