Wild Carrot (Daucus carota) is a hairy biennial with finely divided, fern-like leaves and characteristic umbels of white to pale lilac flowers, often with a single dark central floret. Blooming from June to September, it is widespread across lowland UK, becoming more coastal in Scotland. The plant thrives in grasslands, cliffs, roadsides, hedge banks, and calcareous soils, sometimes near the sea. Daucus carota attracts bees, hoverflies, and other pollinators, adding height, structure, and ecological value to meadows and naturalistic plantings.
