Water Avens (Geum rivale) is a perennial that thrives in damp habitats such as riverbanks, wet woodlands, and meadows. It produces nodding, bell-shaped flowers from May to July, which attract bees, hoverflies, and other insects. More common in northern and western parts of the UK, Geum rivale adds subtle colour and wildlife value to damp, shaded areas and naturalistic plantings.

Water Avens can tolerate a range of soil types ,so long as they are water retentive ,and will grow in sun or in shade. It will need watering if the soil dries out. The flowering stems need cutting back in the autumn. |
