Description

Water Avens (Geum rivale) is a graceful native perennial wildflower. That produces nodding, bell-shaped flowers in shades of dusky pink, purple, and cream from May to July. Its distinctive blooms and attractive foliage make it an excellent choice for wet meadows, pond margins, marshes, and other moisture-rich habitats.

Naturally found in damp grasslands, fens, woodland edges, riverbanks, and wetlands throughout the UK. Water Avens thrives in consistently moist, fertile soils and grows best in full sun or partial shade. Its upright growth habit adds height, texture and seasonal interest to species-rich planting schemes while blending naturally with other native wetland plants.

The nectar-rich flowers attract bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and other pollinating insects, making Water Avens a valuable species for supporting biodiversity. Its seed heads also provide additional visual interest after flowering, extending its appeal well into the growing season. As a UK native wildflower, it is ideally suited to wetland restoration, pond creation, ecological landscaping, and conservation projects.
