Heather (Calluna vulgaris) is a low-growing, evergreen shrub found throughout the UK. It thrives in acidic, well-drained soils and is characteristic of heathland, moorland and upland habitats. From late summer into autumn, it produces masses of delicate bell-shaped flowers in shades of purple, pink or white, providing an important source of nectar for bees and other pollinators. Its evergreen foliage offers year-round structure and colour, making it a valuable species for both wildlife habitats and ornamental landscapes.
This Heather seed is supplied as “cleaned” seed, having been processed through our specialist Seed Separators to remove excess chaff, stems and other inert material. The result is a high-purity seed product that is easier to handle, store and sow.
The benefits of cleaned seed include improved sowing accuracy, more even seed distribution and reduced waste during application. With less inert material present, you receive a higher proportion of Heather seed per gram, helping you achieve more consistent coverage across your planting area.
The weight of seed you have purchased will be the weight of cleaned Heather seed ordered.
All our seeds are true UK native wildflowers and shrubs, harvested from sites across the country, many within Cumbria and some from our own meadows and heathland habitats. We also work with wildlife organisations and collect wild seed from their nature reserves and other wildlife sites under a DEFRA permit.
By choosing our products, you support British growers and suppliers who work closely with local farmers and businesses. However, be aware that some online sellers import non-native plants and seeds. While these may be cheaper, they are not true UK natives and may not suit our environment.
