Our Wetland/Pond Edge Area 40 Plug Plant Mix features typical wildflower species found in wetland areas and along pond edges. Check the habitat information below for guidance. We provide planting and maintenance advice with every order. You can plant these plug plants directly by the edge of a garden pond, in temporarily flooded areas, or within a wetland. We grow them in media tailored to the conditions where they will thrive. All our plants are UK native species grown from wild seed. We never use neonicotinoid insecticides, so our plants pose no risk to native insects.

Habitat:
These plants need to be planted in wet ground, ideally near water. Although some of these plants can grow in very shallow water, the area usually needs to partially dry in the summer. Importantly, these are not aquatic or floating plants, so they cannot remain in water all year round. However, they can cope with winter flooding. Ideally, they should be placed on the edge of a pond, with their roots wet but stems above water. In addition, they prefer neutral soils. Finally, do not plant them where they could be grazed or mown between March and September.
By choosing our products, you support British growers and suppliers who work closely with local farmers and businesses. All our plants are grown from British Seed and raised in Britain. However, be aware that some online sellers import non-native plants and seeds. While these may be cheaper, they are not true UK natives and may not suit our environment.
All our plants are true UK native British wildflowers grown from UK sourced native wild seed. We grow our plants in Peat-free growing media in our sustainable nursery.
| Management |
We recommend you allow these plants to flower through the summer. Let them set seed and drop seed. If you want they can be cut back in late Autumn but leave at least 75mm of the stem – ensure this section is not covered by water until the winter. These plants usually winter as Rhizomes so there is not much showing in the winter. They will come again in late Spring the following year. Always be aware you will have to manage weeds in the first 2-3 years after planting. |
