ManagementRed Clover grows best in well-drained or dry, neutral or alkaline soils but will cope with mild acid soil. It prefers to be in full sunlight but will cope with dappled shade. They will grow in hay meadows and pastures with moderate grazing. The latter causing the plant to maintain a smaller size/height. Red clover stands that are one year old or older should be cut at least 3 or 4 times in a season. In newly sown grasslands they can in the first 2-3 years become dominant and cutting back or small scale control may be necessary but this outcome is dependant on the site conditions.
