Our Neutral Hay Meadow 30:70 Seed Mix is a true UK native mix designed for neutral soils and traditional hay meadow management. This mix contains 30% native grasses and 70% native wildflowers (forbs), supplied separately for ease of sowing and even distribution. It suits meadows, orchards, and grassland areas managed with an annual hay cut. Once established, this mix creates a diverse and colourful meadow that supports pollinators and a wide range of insects. It also provides valuable habitat for birds and small mammals while delivering long-lasting seasonal interest.

Management
This seed mix is recommended for sowing onto neutral dry to moist soil with moderate fertility and a good soil depth. This is designed to sow the year after establishing yellow rattle and the sward is opened up. Sow seed onto well-prepared bare soil and create a suitable seed bed free from weeds. The seed can also be used as over sown seed into existing grassland BUT ensure the area is well harrowed grassland (show up to 30-40% bare soil). The mix is designed to grow in a hay meadow regime (see Hay Meadow Factsheet). The seed may take time to germinate, with some germinating next year. There will be a requirement to manage weeds for the next 12 months. Our seed mix should be sown at the correct time of year in well prepared soil (March to Oct).
Some of these seeds are ‘sticky seeds’ and as such may stick in a seed spreader. Spreading by hand is advised or using a fertiliser spreader. Cumbria Wildflowers provide an after-management factsheet with all orders; please ask when ordering.
All our seeds are true UK native wildflowers, harvested from sites across the country many within Cumbria and some from our own meadows. We also work with Wildlife Organisations and collect wild seed from their Nature Reserves and other wildlife sites under a DEFRA permit.
By choosing our products, you support British growers and suppliers who work closely with local farmers and businesses. Please, be aware that some online sellers import non-native plants and seeds. While these may be cheaper, they are not true UK natives and may not suit our environment.
This product is priced per unit (1 gram of seed), and we have a minimum order of 10 units (10 grams) for this seed mix
