Description

Lesser Spearwort (Ranunculus flammula) is a native perennial wildflower that produces bright yellow, buttercup-like flowers from June to September. Its slender stems and narrow leaves add colour and interest to wetlands, pond margins, and damp grassland planting schemes.

This species thrives in consistently moist or waterlogged soils and grows best in full sun or partial shade. It naturally occurs in marshes, fens, wet meadows, ditches, and along the edges of ponds and streams across the UK. As a result, it is an excellent choice for wetland restoration, habitat creation, and conservation projects.

The nectar-rich flowers attract bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and other pollinating insects throughout the summer. Additionally, its spreading growth habit helps establish diverse wetland habitats and provides valuable cover for invertebrates. Its long flowering season also supports wildlife over an extended period.
