Latin Name: Mentha aquatica
Description: There are about 14 or 15 different hybrids of mint growing in the UK. Water mint prefers damp habitats and the edge of open water. Planting Water Mint around garden ponds will help attract butterflies like the small tortoiseshell and the gatekeeper. The flowers grow in clusters around the stem. The leaves have a distinctive aroma - especially when crushed.
Flower Colour: Can vary from mauve-purple to pink, blue or lilac.

Plant Height: 40-60cm
Management: Water Mint plants do well in water margins like pond edges, fens, and reed beds. Its extensive root system enables it to thrive in these habitats. It can become invasive so cut back each year.
